WHAT YOU CAN  EXPECT ON THIS SITE

The red SOUTHERN  X476 caboose has been chosen as the logo for this site.  Cotton was the major source of income in this area and was referred to as KING.  However, the cotton had to be transported out easily and quickly or its importance was lost.  But first, supplies had to be imported.  Enter, the train.  COTTON was KING and the TRAIN was QUEEN.  That perfect marriage created Springfield.   Mr. Frank J. Lorick, a long time employee of the Southern Railway Company and a resident of Springfield was the driving force in obtaining the red SOUTHERN  X476 caboose for Springfield that today is parked on the original sidetrack rail and serves as the symbol of Springfield's existence.  We salute and thank FRANK J. LORICK for his foresight and contribution!

This site is a privately owned site.
It is not associated with any special interest group,
government, political, or religious organizations.

The mission of this site is to inform and educate the reader about Springfield and it's history.  This site will diligently seek to provide facts that are accurate and true.  It will always be a family-friendly site for everyone who can read or look at photos.  You can be assured that this site will be devoid of gutter language and content generally considered to be objectionable, even by the most conservative American standards.

The HOME PAGE is an introduction page.  New items in the site might be posted on this page.  In addition, there will probably be a frequent change of one or two photos of interest.

The KUDZU VINE PAGE will generally contain photos and/or text about local, one time happenings, posted for an indefinite time.  Of course, the KUDZU VINE is simply a substitute for the legendary GRAPE VINE that is responsible for the quick dissemination of gossip and real news, especially in small towns such as Springfield.  Also, on this page there are numerous external links to interesting sites.

The THIS SITE PAGE provides information about the entire site and will remain unchanged.  The photo of the red Southern  X476 caboose is the logo for this site and will always be prominently displayed on each page. Under the caboose on each page  is the date of the last edit; therefore, the reader can determine if any changes have been made since his or her last visit.

The FROG JUMP PAGE will always retain the history of the Frog Jump, but some information about the current status of events will change as the need arises.  Some photos will be removed and others will be added as time permits.

The GOODLAND HISTORY PAGE contains historical facts, photos, and maybe some legends about Springfield and the Goodland community as it relates to Springfield.  However, I shall always indicate when something is a legend, rather than a known fact.

The EDITORIALS PAGE contains my comments and editorials about a variety of subjects.

The TOWN HALL PAGE contains information about how our elected officials govern our town.

The W4BPD PAGE is devoted to the world wide travels of Mr. Gus M. Browning and his wife Peggy of Orangeburg, SC.  They traveled extensively during the 1960s and 1970s, transmitting Ham Radio signals from remote places around the world.   W4BPD is the Ham Radio call sign that was assigned to Mr. Browning.  Even if you don't have any interest in Amateur Radio, you will find humor, and to a large degree experience the adventures of traveling the seas and into foreign countries during a period of time that travel was not as easy, in some respects, as traveling today.

The LOGIC OF ATHEISM PAGE is a page about Atheism.  It contains several links and other information about Atheism, and also contains my thoughts about Atheism.  It is not an attempt to proselytize the reader.  Just like your TV, you can turn it off.  If you don't wish to learn about Atheism, then just don't go to that page.  I am in no way attempting to force any information on anyone.
